Dr. Nawaaz Nathoo

After graduating with a doctor of medicine from the University of Alberta in 2010, Dr. Nawaaz Nathoo went on to complete his ophthalmology residency at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2015. He then completed a fellowship in clinical education in 2017, also at UBC.

Dr.  Nathoo splits his time developing his skills as a comprehensive ophthalmologist and contributing to the education of medical students and residents.

Apart from practicing medical and surgical ophthalmology at Vancouver General Hospital, Dr. Nathoo has the distinction of being the residency program director for UBC’s Ophthalmology Residency Program, overseeing the training of all ophthalmology residents in B.C. He also participates in the RACE On-Call service, providing ophthalmology consultations to family physicians and nurse practitioners in British Columbia.

He has completed thousands of refractive surgeries over his career, including both corneal procedures (LASIK and PRK) as well as intraocular procedures (ICL, refractive lens exchange, and refractive cataract surgeries).

Dr. Nathoo has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, Orbit, the Journal of Glaucoma, the American Journal of Ophthalmology and the Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, to name a few.

He regularly presents at national and international conferences on topics relating to cataract and refractive surgery as well as medical education. He has also been an invited speaker to a number of international academic ophthalmology departments, lecturing and consulting on medical education in Kenya, Nepal, and Pakistan.
