Post-operative care

Please remember that your follow-up care is as important as the actual procedure.

  • LASIK

Following your LASIK procedure, you will be required to attend the following post-operative examinations:

    • 24 hrs (must be done at LASIK MD)
    • 2 weeks
    • 1 year
    • Corneal imaging appointment every 2 years*
    • Any additional post-op visits we determine to be necessary
  • PRK

Following your PRK procedure, you will be required to attend the following post-operative examinations:

    • 24 hrs (must be done at LASIK MD)
    • Every other day for the first 4 to 5 days following your surgery
    • 1 to 2 weeks
    • 1 month
    • 1 year
    • Corneal imaging appointment every 2 years*
    • Any additional post-op visits that we determine to be necessary

*Following a laser vision correction procedure at LASIK MD, we require all patients to return to a LASIK MD clinic biennially for a corneal imaging appointment. Not only will this allow us to monitor the ongoing health of your cornea but it will also maintain the eligibility of the Vision Enhancement Plan you may have chosen.

Please note that the timing of post-operative appointments may vary from the above table, and some may be conducted virtually or over the phone. The details of your timetable will be explained on the day of your procedure by one of our eye care professionals.

The first year of post-operative examinations are included in the cost of surgery. Additional appointments may be required. Please ask about our Vision Enhancement Plans.

In addition to these follow up visits, it is also important to follow the regimen of eye drops, wear your protective sunglasses and to follow the post-surgery recommended activity schedule.

If you choose to have your follow-up visits with your own eye care professional, your optometrist will require post-operative forms. After your 24-hour post-operative appointment, you will receive, via fax, mail or in person, your refractive surgical report and post-operative form. Please bring these documents to your appointment with your optometrist.

For patients who choose to have post-operative care with their own eye care professional, LASIK MD will not be responsible for any additional charges. LASIK MD will not reimburse either the patient or doctor for any additional charges.
