Educational Background

Dr. Ong holds a Bachelor of Science (B.SC.) from McGill University, a Master of Science (M.SC.) with a major in Biomedical Science from the University of Montreal, and a Doctor of Medicine and Master of Surgery (MDCM) from McGill University, Dr. Ong finished an ophthalmology residency at McGill University in 2018. He also completed a glaucoma and advanced anterior segment surgery (GAASS) fellowship at the University of Toronto.

Refractive Experience

Dr. Ong is a specialist in glaucoma and advanced anterior segment surgery (GAASS), having worked on some of the most advanced and complex cases during his fellowship at the University of Toronto. He also specializes in LASIK surgery and Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE).

In addition, Dr. Ong is currently a clinical and surgical professor at Laval University, specializing in glaucoma and advanced anterior segment surgery. Previously, he was a researcher at the University of Montreal working directly under Dr. Isabelle Brunette, and was supervised by Dr. Eser Adiguzel during his time as a Retrospective Chart Reviewer for LASIK MD. Additionally, Dr. Ong has also worked as an Anatomy Prosector for McGill University and participated as a Skeletal Health Research Program Trainee at the Lady Davis Institute of the Jewish General Hospital.

Accomplishments and Awards

Dr. Ong was the recipient of a Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) Bursary, the University of Montreal’s Biomedical science Department Merit Bursary Award, the Suzanne Véronneau-Troutman FROUM – Master Scholarship, and the Vision Health Research Network Summer Internship Bursary.

In addition, Dr. Ong has had several publications appear in academic journals, including in Invest Ophthalmol Vis Sci, Eye and Vision, and Biomaterials. He has also presented his work at the 2020 Canadian Glaucoma Society (CGS) Annual Meeting, the 2019 American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Annual Meeting, and the 2019 Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS) Annual Meeting.
