Canada’s Best Managed Companies – Spotlight on Tasnia Mahbub

Best Managed Companies

For the ninth consecutive year, LASIK MD has been named as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, a program that recognizes success in Canadian businesses. But we wouldn’t be where we are today without our hard-working and dedicated employees. And that’s why we’re thrilled to introduce you to some of the remarkable people that make up LASIK MD.

Meet Tasnia Mahbub.

She’s been a part of the team for nearly five years. Read on to learn more about her experiences working with LASIK MD.

What’s your role at LASIK MD? I work in the Patient Care Centre (PCC). I’m responsible for training new employees for a period of five to six weeks as patient care centre agents on the phone. I also assist in the recruitment process for the PCC, meaning I conduct phone interviews and select candidates, assist in face-to-face interviews and work on providing refresher trainings to our existing PCC team.

What are some of your day-to-day tasks? When I’m not training a group, I’m usually assigning callback tasks to phone agents to confirm pre-operative appointments, prepping training material and updating changes in protocol and medical information in presentations. I also update the TV presentation with helpful reminders to agents, as well as fun anecdotes. And when I do have a new training group, I’m assigning call-back tasks to phone agents in order to confirm pre-operative appointments and teaching medical and technical training material to new employees.

Tell us about a treasured item you keep handy on your desk/at your workstation. My pixel heart morphing mug; it’s pretty neat! It basically changes colours whenever my coffee’s hot. I can’t go a day without it!

What inspires you most about working at LASIK MD? Honestly, I’m inspired by the fact that we work to improve people’s lives. I’ll never forget how, the day after my very own LASIK procedure, I looked over and saw my alarm clock clearly. That was incredible. I felt like one of those ladies from the allergy med commercials, running through fields of daisies! Vision is something we often take advantage of, and I realized that after having my surgery, it was truly life-altering for me. I can only imagine how our patients’ lives change after LASIK.

What sets LASIK MD apart from other employers? The work environment, hands down! People sometimes think I’m making this up, but I’ve met people here that I hold close to my heart.

And what’s your proudest achievement while working at LASIK MD? That’s easy: It was winning the “Employee of the Year” award in 2015 for the Patient Care Centre. It’s gratifying to be recognized for my work, and it came as a complete shock, too!

When you’re not at work, what are some other things that you like to do? I’m a foodie, so I enjoy cooking and coming up with recipes (and naturally, eating is a close second). I also love to travel: One of my 2016 goals includes beating my personal record of travelling to six cities in a year! I like to sing, and I also enjoy obsessively watching anything Shonda Rimes-related (like, hello, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder!)
