To Luca "Lazylegz" Patuelli, the expression "no excuses, no limits" is more than just a slogan. It’s a spirit that truly captures everything about this can’t-keep-your-eyes-off-him break-dancer. Living by these words has helped pave the way for Luca’s success as a dancer, choreographer, motivational speaker, and dance crew founder.

A singular journey

Luca’s story is one that’s sure to inspire people of all ages. That’s because he was born with a condition called arthrogryposis, a neuromuscular disorder characterized by a non-movement of the joints. Because of this, he uses crutches to walk (and dance, but more on that later). No matter what, though, nothing—not even arthrogryposis—was going to keep him from achieving his dreams. In early 2018, he decided to get the LASIK procedure to help him discover freedom from glasses and contacts.

Inspiring beginnings

Luca was born in Montreal and grew up in Bethesda, Maryland. Although he returned to Montreal for his university degree, it was back in the States where he discovered what would become his lifelong passion: breakdancing. Everything about it was appealing: the music, the beats, and even the culture surrounding break-dancing.

How LASIK helped improve Luca’s performance

“Whenever I’m performing I want to give 100% of myself at all times,” he says. But, he found that hard to do when it came to his performance. Glasses and contact lenses would get in the way of giving it his all. So, Luca decided to make a change. One of the key reasons why Luca opted for LASIK is that the procedure allowed him to find new ways to make his life a little easier.

Simplicity, achieved

LASIK didn’t just change up his everyday routine—no longer did he have to worry about inserting contact lenses before a training session—but its benefits popped up in surprising ways, too. For example, he didn’t have to even think about packing any contact lens solutions with him when traveling somewhere far for a competition. But the best part, he says, is how it helped him improve.

"Now," he says, "I can be a better version of myself."

Luca’s post-LASIK life
