Where did Dr. Rootman study?
Dr. David Rootman’s distinguished career in ophthalmology began at the University of Toronto. As a resident and physician, Dr. Rootman was identified as an outstanding prospect for the University of Toronto’s teaching staff and was sent for two additional years of training at Louisiana State University, the first North American institution to perform laser refractive surgery. Under the direction of world-famous Drs. Kaufman and McDonald, Dr. Rootman had the opportunity to study with pioneers and leaders in the field of refractive surgery.
What refractive experience does Dr. Rootman have?
With over two decades of experience, Dr. Rootman specializes in a variety of vision correction procedures, including cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and corneal crosslinking. He’s also one of the only surgeons in the area who performs implantable Collamer® lens (ICL) surgery.
As medical director of TLC Laser Eye Centres’ Toronto clinic, Dr. Rootman is dedicated to ensuring his patients receive the highest quality of care. This includes a commitment to utilizing the most advanced techniques and technology. Over the years, Dr. Rootman has taken a leading role in educating fellow refractive surgeons and advancing his practice. He’s developed a passion for enhancing lives by reducing dependency on glasses and contact lenses.
What awards has Dr. Rootman received?
As a professor at the University of Toronto, Dr. Rootman has made significant contributions to the education of ophthalmologists from across Canada and around the world. A leader in his field, Dr. Rootman has trained corneal specialist surgeons from more than 10 different countries, is the author of hundreds of research papers, has had work appear in numerous publications and has lectured all over the world on all topics related to his subspecialty. Dr. Rootman also served as medical director of the Eye Bank of Canada for more than 12 years.
