Dr. Vikram Lekhi completed his Bachelor of Science in Organic Chemistry and Cell and Molecular Biology at Simon Fraser University in 2006. He then went on to the University of Calgary, completing a Master of Biomedical Technology in 2007. He took a hiatus from educational pursuits to run a biotechnology company and fulfill the role of an adjunct professorship at the University of Calgary. He then completed both his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration degree in 2011. Dr. Lekhi completed his ophthalmology residency with a focus on comprehensive ophthalmology at the same institution in 2017. He has undergone further training in refractive surgery, oculoplastics, and cosmetics with some of the leading figures of each field.
During the early years of his practice, Dr. Lekhi received surgical training from some of North America’s most renowned refractive surgeons. He has been trained in a wide array of options for correcting vision for far, intermediate, and near distances. These procedures include Standard and All-Laser LASIK, PRK, Laser PresbyVision™, refractive lens exchanges and phakic IOL surgery. He has been trained in advanced intraocular surgical techniques for patients with complicated cataract cases. Whether it be cataract surgery, comprehensive ophthalmology, cosmetics or refractive surgery, Dr. Lekhi is dedicated to not only understanding current technologies but adapting multiple techniques to improve patients’ outcomes, safety and their in-clinic experience.
In addition to his two comprehensive ophthalmology practices and work at LASIK MD, Dr. Lekhi is a clinical lecturer and on-staff at the University of Calgary, furthering his passion of teaching and sharing his experiences.
During his time as a student, Dr. Lekhi was the recipient of numerous awards, scholarships and grants, including the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award, the Joseph Albert Award for Elective Study at Centres of Excellence, the Lydia Sikora Medical Research Award and a Millennium Graduate Bursary. Dr. Lekhi regularly presents at conferences and publishes in academic journals. He has frequently presented at events put on by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Canadian Ophthalmology Society.
