During a LASIK MD webinar, Dr. Avi Wallerstein answered the following two questions: “How long does the surgery take and does it hurt?” and “Do I have to wear bandages over my eyes afterwards?”
Dr. Wallerstein says bandages aren’t used following the surgery. However, he says protecting the eyes is still important for a couple days after the procedure, so sunglasses are recommended to protect the eyes. Sunglasses help to prevent patients from rubbing their eyes.
Dr. Wallerstein goes on to say that the LASIK procedure is very quick. He says it takes on average 10 minutes of operating room time. He says the actual laser time is usually only about 30 seconds.
With regards to pain, Dr. Wallerstein says eye drops are used to numb the eye, so patients don’t feel any pain or discomfort.
