Hyperopia treatments

What is hyperopia?

Hyperopia, also known as hypermetropia or farsightedness, is a vision problem where a person can see distant objects clearly but close objects appear blurry.

What causes hyperopia?

Hyperopia is caused by the eye being shorter than normal. As a result, light rays come together at a point behind the retina and are therefore out of focus. Nearby objects can appear blurry, while distant objects are clearer. Very farsighted patients may report that they are unable to focus on objects at any distance.

How is hyperopia corrected?

While there are several ways to correct hyperopia, like glasses and contacts, LASIK MD offers laser vision correction as a permanent solution. A laser vision correction surgeon uses a precise laser to flatten the peripheral cornea to make the central cornea more curved. In turn, this allows light rays to focus directly onto the retina for a clear vision.

Hyperopia vs myopia

Hyperopia is a condition in which nearby objects appear blurry, as opposed to myopia where objects at a distance appear blurry. While it’s not possible to have both conditions at the same time, it is possible to have one of them combined with astigmatism.

LASIK MD offers a full range of vision correction procedures and will determine, based on your prescription, the customized vision solution to correct your vision problem. All you have to do is come in for a free consultation. Book your appointment today!
