Femtosecond lasers

At LASIK MD, our clinics use the latest femtosecond technology from the world leaders in laser vision correction, including Bausch & Lomb, Alcon and Abbott Medical Optics (AMO).

During the All-Laser LASIK procedure, our experienced surgeons rely on femtosecond lasers to create a corneal flap. With this particular surgery, the laser is used in the place of thin-flap microkeratome. While some patients may feel more comfortable with a bladeless procedure, research has shown that both offer similar outcomes.

During your pre-operative consultation, a LASIK MD eye care professional will be able to assess which procedure is best suited for your eyes.

Femtosecond lasers used at LASIK MD

  • IntraLase Femtosecond laser

The AMO IntraLase Femtosecond laser represents a breakthrough in the field of ultrafast laser science. It is the first bladeless laser technology available for corneal flap creation.

As the IntraLase FS laser moves back and forth across your eye, it creates a uniform layer of bubbles just below the corneal surface at a specific depth and position within your cornea. The corneal flap is created by gently separating the tissue where these bubbles have formed.

The AMO IntraLase Femtosecond laser results in a successful outcome with minimal disruption to the corneal structure. It makes for stronger corneal flaps and fewer possible complications, ultimately leading the patient to a faster recovery.

  • Alcon WaveLight FS200

The WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser is an innovative bladeless model designed to provide patients with the highest standard of precision and reliability.

This WaveLight® model's use is intended for highly-advanced LASIK treatments, and offers customized flap creation options. With a repetition rate of 200 Hz, it is the fastest flap creation laser platform in use today, taking approximately six seconds to create a corneal flap. This platform also uses leading-edge PerfectPulse Technology® to ensure exact precision and total safety in all treatments administered.

This laser also functions using low pulse energy, and it offers a unique cutting pattern for accurate flap creation. The WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser has numerous features to allow for improved usability and for more efficient procedures resulting in a quick, painless treatment.

  • AMO Intralase IFS150 @ 150Hz

The AMO IntraLase IFS150 is a femtosecond laser that offers safe and proven results. It uses IntraLase® Technology, which creates innovative-shaped corneal incisions for full-thickness corneal transplants.

This is the most advanced femtosecond model available. It features a repetition rate of 150 Hz, meaning that it can create a LASIK flap in under 10 seconds. It is one of the fastest femtosecond lasers on the market.

The IntraLase laser is designed to create a bevel-edged flap which allows for a more precise adjustment and repositioning. This feature helps to reduce the potential for flap complications which can sometimes arise when a microkeratome is in use. It uses lower energy per pulse in order to reduce tissue response and any potential for inflammation. These features combined result in a successful outcome with minimal disruption of the corneal structure, stronger flaps and fewer possible complications, ultimately leading to a fast recovery.
