The question “Are there side effects of LASIK for night time vision?” was asked during a LASIK MD webinar. Dr. Avi Wallerstein gives the answer. Dr. Wallerstein says night time glare and halos used to be a concern a decade ago when the technology wasn’t able to treat an area of the cornea larger than the pupil. He says today’s technology now has a larger treatment zone, which eliminates the permanent side effect of glare and halos around lights at night.
Dr. Wallerstein says patients may still experience some night time vision side effects, but he says this is caused by water retention after the surgery, and that these side effects are temporary.
Dr. Wallerstein goes on to say that many patients experience improved night time vision following laser vision correction.
