LASIK is a safe and painless procedure that takes approximately 10 minutes of operating room time, during which the laser is used for less than one minute on each eye. LASIK laser eye surgery can be used to correct nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.

The LASIK procedure involves two steps:

Step 1:

A precise flap-making instrument is used to create a thin flap of corneal tissue. This flap is raised and laid back but still attached to the cornea, in preparation for the actual laser vision correction procedure.

Step 2:

For the second step of the procedure, the surgeon will perform one of two laser vision correction techniques: Standard LASIK, or Advanced Custom Wavefront LASIK. In both techniques, an excimer laser is used to reshape the cornea by removing tissue from its middle layer.
