Increasing Athleticism: Pros Turn to LASIK, and So Should You

If you are a professional hockey player, it is imperative that you trust your vision on the ice as the puck speeds towards you at 100 kilometers per hour. Before getting LASIK, NHL athlete Tyler Seguin found his contacts too unreliable: they would irritate his eyes or fall out during a game. But since the Brampton, Ontario native had his procedure at LASIK MD, he’s been a great example of how increasing athleticism is possible with LASIK. Professional athletes can really up their game with laser vision correction, as can you.

In Seguin’s 2010-2011 rookie NHL season Seguin scored 11 goals and 22 points. In the offseason he got LASIK, and then opened up the 2011-2012 campaign with 20 points in his first 15 games. With his new and improved sight, Seguin had a breakout year with 29 goals and 67 points, he even made the All-Star game. Seguin thanks LASIK MD for his better eyesight: “Thanks to LASIK MD, I’m now enjoying 20/20 vision! My day-to-day life has improved drastically, and I feel much more confident on the ice!”

Rip Hamilton, of the Detroit Pistons, had a field-goal percentage of 44 before the 2004–2005 season. After having LASIK, that percentage rose three points to 47 percent. If those numbers are any indication, Hamilton wasn’t suffering from poor aim; he was just having trouble seeing the field goal range.

Contacts are especially problematic for triathletes, such as Paula Findlay. She battled against wind, water, and other athletes—all able to knock out a contact during a race. Findlay has lost a contact during five different races. Now, having undergone laser vision correction with LASIK MD, she says, “I no longer have to worry about losing a lens while racing—and having to finish a race with the distraction of blurred vision.”

Finally, before LASIK, pitcher Greg Maddux of the Atlanta Braves was on a losing streak. After getting laser vision correction, he led his team to win 9 out of 10 games.

Increasing athleticism with LASIK may be a no-brainer for professional athletes, but it should be for you too! In addition to the freedom that laser vision correction allows you in your everyday life, you also gain more freedom, precision, and athleticism in your sport when you trade in your contacts or glasses for good.
