Dating Advice For When Your Vision Isn’t Perfect

Posted on 2013/10/22 at 3:53 pm by LASIK MD

If you wear glasses or contacts, chances are you’ve encountered some minor or major setbacks when it comes to dating. You may have worried that your glasses make you look bookish, or that you’ll have to sleep with your contacts in on an unexpected overnight date. So, if you’re looking for ways to improve your game, here are five dating tips!

1. Don’t Add Years to Your Look

We all know that first impressions are so important: people judge you based on your appearance. Clothes, hair, height—they all play a part in how you’re perceived. The thing about glasses is they give you a certain look. Fair or not, people judge glasses wearers for looking older. In fact, a 2010 study found that glasses made people look an average of 3.3 years older than they actual were. If you’re going out and hope to meet someone, or are uploading an online dating profile picture, try losing the glasses.

2. Hold Eye Contact

Flirtatious, momentary eye contact takes guts to try, but it’s supremely effective and something that dating advice often overlooks. When you see someone cute across the room, try to hold their gaze for a few decent seconds and show a slight smile before looking away. With your eyes you’re saying, “I want to talk to you tonight” without coming on too strong. Try it again a bit later in the evening if you haven’t started talking yet; this second look will solidify your interest and invite him or her to approach you. Once you’ve started a conversation, remember to hold eye contact as well to facilitate a connection.

3. Be Open for Active Dates

Active or sporty dates, like rock climbing, or beach volleyball, not only get your heart rate up, but they create a great bonding experience with the person you’re dating. Activity dates are a bit harder when your glasses get in the way. Trade them for laser eye surgery so you’re ready to embrace adventures.

4. Increase Your Hookup Chances

It’s a practical problem: removing your glasses before kissing someone can kill the mood. Why not eliminate the possibility of awkwardness by going glasses free? Plus, when there’s no barrier between your potential hookup and your gorgeous eyes, why wouldn’t they want to kiss you?

5. Simplify the Morning After

If you’ve succeeded in getting to know someone new and you’re ready to take the relationship to the next level, you may not need dating advice anymore! However, you don’t want to have to squint or reach for your glasses to see his or her face when you wake up the next morning. While long-lasting contacts can do the trick, they’re uncomfortable to sleep in, and many people find it annoying to have to carry a contact case with them when sleeping elsewhere. Laser vision correction is an easy solution! You can book a free consultation with LASIK MD here.
