For the ninth consecutive year, LASIK MD has been named as one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, a program that recognizes success in Canadian businesses. But we wouldn’t be where we are today without our hard-working and dedicated employees. And that’s why we’re thrilled to introduce you to some of the remarkable people that make up LASIK MD.

Meet Our Senior Director of Operations Geneviève Pilon. She’s been a part of the team for 14 years. Read on to learn more about herexperiences working at LASIK MD.

What are some of your day-to-day tasks at LASIK MD? My role is to support the different brands (LASIK MD, Cataract MD, Refresh MD and Allergy MD) on an operational level. While my tasks tend to vary on the day-to-day, here’s just an example of some of the things I’m in charge of: I am responsible for reviewing and developing new strategies for the operations, clinical and regional director teams, I help with the planning and execution of different events and conferences and meet with the different teams at our head office. In working with the various teams, my aim is to develop and implement the best possible strategies to support the clinics. Finally, I also help to lead the operations teams in their daily tasks and projects.

Tell us about a special object that you keep at your desk or workstation: I don’t really have too many personal items on my desk, but there are two things that I keep near me that never fail to make me smile. The first is a quote that a colleague gave to me, and I find it motivating every time I look at it. It says: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” The other item is actually my “Employee of the Year” award certificate. I’m proud of it, and it serves as a daily reminder as to why I’m here—because when you work hard, you’ll be rewarded. Beyond that, I don’t really have anything else at my desk, except for my computer and some documents.

What inspires you most about working at LASIK MD? I think what’s most inspirational about working at LASIK MD is the team of people I work with. Between my colleagues, my team and my supervisors, there’s always someone pushing me to do more and to do my best. I think that’s one of this company’s strongest suits: The people who work here believe in what we offer, and they go the extra mile every day. Even though some days at work can be difficult, it’s also motivating to know that our colleagues are always close by, offering support. It’s a special thing.

What sets LASIK MD apart from other employers?
LASIK MD stands out against other employers for all the reasons that I listed above—and beyond. I believe that working for a company always seeking to do their best can be motivating for young (and not-so-young) professionals. I feel fortunate that in the 14 years I’ve worked here, I see no signs of things ever slowing down. Things are always moving and shaking at LASIK MD and even though I’ve held this position for a few years now, I’m always learning something new and adapting to new changes because things here are constantly evolving.

What’s been one of your greatest accomplishments while working here at LASIK MD? If I had to choose just one accomplishment (although it’s tricky to narrow it down to just one after having worked here for 14 years) I would say that I am proud of the fact that I founded and singlehandedly ran the human resources department in the early years of my career. Back in those days, LASIK MD only had about thirty or so employees, so one person could pretty much take on all of the responsibilities of an entire department. But as LASIK MD grew, so did HR, and I was afforded the opportunity to shape it the way that I wanted to, all with the help of a great team. Today, the HR department is on another level, managing over 500 employees across the country. I’m particularly proud of the work they do daily, and it’s exciting to see how the team continues to flourish and grow.

What do you like to do when you’re not here at LASIK MD? Even though I sometimes have a love/hate relationship with sports and fitness, I try to stay active as much as I possibly can in my spare time. I’ve even taken up jogging in these last few years—it helps me to feel good and decompress. I also really like to eat and cook, but doing a lot of different activities allows me to maintain a healthy balance.
