Meet Ophthalmic Technician Adam Ahearn. He’s been a part of the team for nine years. Read on to learn more about hisexperiences working at LASIK MD.

What are some of your day-to-day tasks in your role? I perform the required testing to determine a patient’s candidacy for LASIK prior to surgery. I’m also responsible for explaining the risks and benefits of surgery as well as what the patient can expect with their procedure. I tend to people after they’ve had their surgery, just to monitor how they’re healing. I’m also the person to answer any of their questions and to aid the patient in their recovery process.

What inspires you most about working at LASIK MD? What inspires me about working at LASIK MD is reading the patients’ reviews following their surgery. Sometimes, you can forget that spending a little time with someone to calm fears or answer a few extra questions they may have can give them a better understanding of the process and make a difference on the day of their surgery. In their reviews, they’ll sometimes mention me by name and point out just how I helped them on their path to freedom from glasses and contacts. It really makes me feel good about what I do and encourages me to continually go that extra mile to ensure that they’ll have the best experience at LASIK MD.

Name on thing about LASIK MD that sets it apart from other employers: LASIK MD rewards hard work and proficiency. They’re an employer that gives credit where credit is due.

What is one of your proudest achievements at LASIK MD?Personally, I’m most proud when I look back on how far I’ve come since starting as a 24-year-old clinical assistant, fresh out of university. From there, I continued to learn while at LASIK MD, expanding my knowledge, then growing into a refractive technician role and finally, becoming an experienced ophthalmic technician.

When you’re not hard at work, what are some things that you like to do in your spare time? I like to stay active by playing sports, especially baseball and volleyball. But, spending my time with children is how I end up spending most of my time, because how else can you fight fires, fly a rocket ship and be a superhero—all in the same hour?
