Dr. Maryam Abtahi

Dr. Maryam Abtahi first began her ophthalmological studies at the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Iran,where she completed her residency training. She then completed a second residency at the University of Ottawa Eye Institute in 2017. That same year, she became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and Physicians of Canada, and also completed a glaucoma fellowship with the University of Alberta’s Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences.
Dr. Abtahi joined the University of Ottawa’s Department of Ophthalmology in July 2018. Her practice specializes in meeting the needs of adult patients with glaucoma.
Apart from her in-clinic duties, Dr. Abtahi has also participated in CNIB’s mobile medical eye-care unit (also known as the Eye Van) in the Red Lake area. She also enjoys teaching and is interested in research in the area of glaucoma.
Dr. Abtahi has been involved in a number of research projects in her areas of interest in the Ottawa area, as well as with Dr. Karim Damji, who is based in Edmonton.
Dr. Abtahi’s work has appeared in a number of publications, including Ophthalmology and the Iranian Journal of Ophthalmology. She has also presented at several conferences, including the Canadian Ophthalmological Society’s annual meeting. Additionally, she has experience in editing medical textbook material.
