Dr. Mahta Rasouli attended the University of Toronto for her undergraduate degree in human biology, graduating on the Dean’s list. She then went to Queen’s University to attain her medical degree. Dr. Rasouli completed her five year residency in ophthalmology at the University of Alberta, where she held the position of chief resident.
During her residency, Dr. Rasouli received elective ophthalmology training with a focus on retinopathy at the Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore, the Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia and the Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England.
Dr. Rasouli has a keen interest in refractive errors and other ocular conditions and diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinopathy. She has undergone laser refractive surgery training from some of the most experienced refractive surgeons in Canada and is up-to-date with the latest laser vision correction techniques and technology. Dr. Rasouli is experienced using the latest laser platforms from the world leaders in the field, including the Bausch and Lomb Z100 and the WaveLight Allegretto.
In addition to her work at LASIK MD, Dr. Rasouli practices comprehensive ophthalmology, where she is trained to perform several types of surgeries to correct cataracts, glaucoma, strabismus and retinopathy. She has also performed numerous oculoplastic procedures, such as blepharoplasty. Dr. Rasouli also teaches and mentors residents at her comprehensive ophthalmology clinic.
Dr. Rasouli received several prominent awards and scholarships, including the Governor General Bronze Medal and Outstanding Canadian Youth Medal. During her residency, she received the prestigious Reg Martiniuk Award for Research. She was also named the Ophthalmological Society of Alberta Resident Speaker during her final year of residency.
Dr. Rasouli has a fervent interest in research. She’s published a dozen articles in peer-reviewed journals, including the University of Toronto Medical Journal, Journal of Academic Ophthalmology and Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology.
She has also given presentations on her research for the Canadian Ophthalmological Society, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Canadian Society of Cornea and Refractive Surgery.
