I started wearing glasses at the age of eleven and contact lenses when I turned fourteen. By eighteen, I was wearing contact lenses up to 14 hours per day. That was fine for about 5 years, and then in my mid twenties my eyes started to feel exhausted, irritated and red all the time.
As a promotional model, you are in the public eye and people started commenting on the redness of my eyes. Wearing my glasses during an event was not an option and so it became clear to me that my vision was affecting my ability to perform in my professional duties. I felt as though there was no hope.
One incident I remember clearly was during my tour as Miss Canada Int’l 2002. A huge snowstorm left us unexpectedly stranded in Listowel, Ontario, for three days. I had not brought my contact lens supplies or my glasses so I had no choice but to spend the next few days squinting, which resulted in severe headaches. To make matters worse, I had to decline numerous appearances in the town. The reason: “Sorry…Miss Canada Int’l can not see well enough without her contact lenses to attend.” Now that was embarrassing!
When I first visited LASIK MD, the staff answered all of my questions and really went out of their way to ensure I was informed as to the risks and benefits of this procedure. After a series of painless tests, I was thrilled to hear that I was indeed a candidate and I left LASIK MD feeling prepared and completely confident that the procedure was right for me.
Dr. Wallerstein performed my LASIK procedure and he talked me through it, explaining each step and assuring me that everything was going perfectly. The procedure was completed within a few minutes and was completely painless. By the evening, I was seeing clearly and my vision continued to improve as the hours went by. It was not long before my vision was near perfect.
The professionalism exuded by the LASIK MD staff should be the benchmark in the industry. I would never gamble with my sight and you should not either. I therefore recommend going to the best in the business… go to LASIK MD. Your eyes will thank you!
