I am totally happy with my surgery results. I would recommend it to any endurance athlete, or anyone for that matter!
As an elite ultra trail runner my vision is as important as my shoes. The surgery has made running extreme distances in challenging conditions easier. I struggled with my contacts in several big races last year, culminating with an unplanned four day stay in an emergency tent in the Nevada desert. After my eyes recovered from the severe eye irritation due to the sand storms and wearing contacts, I decided that was it, no more contacts!
Now—after LASIK at LASIK MD—I don't worry about my eyes. It's one less thing to go wrong in a race that can take up to 48 hours to complete. With my improved 20/15 vision, I see the trail better. I can now speed through difficult rocky, rooty terrain with confidence, even at night.
As an ultra trail runner, I run several 100 mile, 24 hour, and 48 hour trail races every year. Of all the things that can go wrong in a long race, it’s nice to know that my eyes are one thing that won’t let me down.
