Day of Surgery

Before you undergo your LASIK or IOL surgery, your prescription will be verified and you will meet with a clinical counsellor.

Verification of Prescription

We will verify your eye prescription and measure your pupils to ensure the accuracy of results. If you wear contact lenses, please refer to our Contact Lens Policy about how long before the vision correction surgery you should remove your contact lenses.

Clinical Counselling

The clinical counsellor will explain the different steps you are about to go through, and provide you with all of the necessary post-operative instructions, such as how to use the eye drops, and more. You will also be required to sign a consent form (please refer to our Informed Consent section for more information on the informed consent process). Here, we will also ensure that payment has been made and will schedule an appointment for your mandatory 24-hour post-operative assessment

Please remember:

  • Do not consume any alcohol
  • Do not apply makeup. For your security, the procedure may be postponed if any makeup is detected.
  • Wear comfortable clothing for your procedure
  • If you are travelling from outside of Canada, please remember to bring proper identification, such as a passport and other proof of citizenship.

Transportation

Please arrange transportation with a driver to take you home following your procedure. You may be asked to return the next day for a follow-up, according to your surgeon’s preferences.

Duration of Surgery Appointment

Expect to be in the clinic for three to four hours on the day of the procedure.
In consideration of others and to ensure that your visit is as comfortable as possible, we ask that you do not bring children with you.

Anxiety

You can expect to feel nervous or anxious prior to your procedure; this is a completely natural response.
You may eat normally before your appointment. To help you relax before your surgery, you will also be given the option of taking a mild sedative, such as Ativan.
