Educational Background
Dr. Lakra attended the University of Calgary and McGill University for his undergraduate studies. In 1990, he graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School and was honoured with the prestigious Cody Silver Medal. After completing his internship at the University of Hawaii, Dr. Lakra graduated from the University of Toronto Ophthalmology Residency Program. There, he was recognized as the Chief Resident and Most Outstanding Resident. Following a year of sub-specialization at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Dr. Lakra returned home to Calgary.
Refractive Experience
Dr. Lakra is a native Calgarian who has been practicing ophthalmology in Calgary since 1996. He is a skilled and experienced eye surgeon. Dr. Lakra has completed over 14,000 LASIK procedures with the Bausch and Lomb technology. Dr. Lakra served as Medical Director and Chief Refractive Surgeon for LASIK Vision Calgary from 1998 to 2001. In 2003 Dr. Lakra was a founding member of LASIK MD Calgary. He has instructed other surgeons on LASIK, both at his Calgary centre and as an invited teacher.
Accomplishments and Awards
Dr. Lakra is the co-author of a book entitled: In Search of 20/20: Everything you need to know about Laser Eye Surgery (1997). Quoted as an expert on the subject of LASIK by USA Today newspaper, Dr. Lakra has been interviewed on television and radio across North America.
Dr. Lakra has also presented papers at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology.
