Educational Background

Dr. Robert Adam attended the University of Western Ontario where he received his undergraduate degree with distinction. From there he obtained his medical degree with honours from the University of Toronto, receiving the Dr. Louis Kagan Memorial Award, presented to the graduating class's top ophthalmology candidate. Dr. Adam completed a post-doctoral fellowship in ophthalmology at McMaster University where he served as chief resident. While completing his residency he received the award for most outstanding resident and best research project.

Refractive Experience

Dr. Adam has performed tens of thousands of ophthalmic procedures, including refractive, cataract, strabismus and eyelid surgery. He has specialized in laser refractive surgery, under the training and supervision of Drs. Mark Cohen and Avi Wallerstein, two of North America’s most experienced laser refractive surgeons. Dr. Adam has experience with many of the latest refractive surgery technologies. He is experienced in LASIK and PRK procedures, including both Standard and Advanced Custom Wavefront techniques.

In addition to his work at LASIK MD, Dr. Adam works at a private clinic in Toronto, and is currently a member of the ophthalmology department at the St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto. Dr. Adam is also actively involved in clinical, surgical and didactic teaching for residents and medical students at both the University of Toronto and McMaster University. He has also been politically involved within the field of opthalmology, representing the Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario as a member of the executive committee.

Accomplishments and Awards

While completing his residency at McMaster University, Dr. Adam was awarded a $5,000 Faculty of Surgery Research Grant to complete a study on herpes zoster ophthalmicus. He presented his findings at a national conference and published his research in the journal Academic Emergency Medicine. Dr. Adam is an active researcher, having published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. These journals include the American Journal of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology and the American Orthoptic Journal. He is also an experienced presenter and lecturer, having given several presentations at professional conferences. Some of the associations he’s presented for include the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and the Ontario Medical Association as well as numerous grand rounds presentations at universities across Canada.

Dr. Adam has spent time volunteering for a number of initiatives, including CNIB's Mobile Eye Care Clinic that carries out vision screening, eye treatments and minor surgeries in remote Ontario communities. He's also been involved in international eye missions in developing countries.
