Educational Background

Dr. Hesham Lakosha completed his medical training at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. He then went on to complete two post-doctoral fellowships—one in ocular oncology at Toronto’s Princess Margaret Hospital, and the other in vitreoretinal training at St. Michael’s Hospital, also in Toronto.

Refractive Experience

Dr. Lakosha worked as a comprehensive ophthalmologist in Sydney, Nova Scotia for close to seven years. He is a surgeon at both the Cape Breton Health Care Complex and Glace Bay Hospital, and has experience performing anterior segment procedures for cataracts, glaucoma, pterygium and strabismus. Dr. Lakosha is also on staff at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Halifax, where he provides special services in ocular oncology. In addition to the above duties, Dr. Lakosha lectures and tutors to ophthalmology residents and undergraduate medical students Dalhousie University in Halifax.

Accomplishments and Awards

Dr. Lakosha has acted as a specialist registrar in ophthalmology in various countries, including the United Kingdom. He has presented at prestigious conferences held by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the International Congress of Ocular Oncology, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Canadian Ophthalmology Society. Most of Dr. Lakosha’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals.
