Educational Background
Dr. Brett Williams completed his undergraduate degree in Chemistry at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. He then completed 2 years of training at New England College of Optometry in Boston before pursuing his medical degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Upon completing his specialization in Ophthalmology at Queen’s University in Kingston, where he served as chief resident, Dr. Williams went on to complete a fellowship in Medical Retina at Queen’s University.
Refractive Experience
Dr. Williams developed his expertise and completed his training in refractive surgery at LASIK MD with some of the most experienced surgeons in North America. He has performed over 7,000 ocular procedures and maintains a busy private practice in St. John’s, where he performs medical retina, comprehensive ophthalmology and cataract surgery. Dr. Williams has an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland where he teaches and tutors medical students during their clinical training. He has also conducted many resident teaching sessions and Grand Rounds presentations as chief resident and retinal fellow at Queen’s University.
Accomplishments and Awards
Dr. Williams has participated in numerous research projects and has published articles in scientific periodicals, including the Canadian Journal of Public Health. He has also given presentations at various events and major ophthalmology conferences, such as the annual Canadian Ophthalmology Society conference and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. During his medical school studies, he was the recipient of the Surgery Prize in Anatomy, awarded to the medical student who has demonstrated a high proficiency in anatomy.
