Lisa Marie Loo, Event Marketing Manager
Working for LASIK MD has opened numerous doors for me in my career as a marketing professional. When I first began as a media coordinator just over two years ago, the marketing team consisted of six members, including myself. Today, we are an ambitious and enthusiastic group of 17! As our department grew, so did I, both personally and professionally. As a new employee to LASIK MD, I was excited and eager to contribute to its life-altering mission; the gift of great vision!
Since joining LASIK MD, I have worked as a Media Coordinator, Media Buyer, and currently hold the position of Event Marketing Manager. I have had the privilege of working alongside a young, talented and experienced group of marketing professionals, all of whom have had a great impact on my personal and professional life. It is not often that one can pursue a rewarding career while simultaneously building valuable friendships in the same setting.
Every day we are given the chance to develop new skills, touch base with other LASIK MD departments and to work closely with upper management. This in turn offers an endless number of possibilities to further one's career path.
LASIK MD is definitely the place to start and grow one's career and grow as a person!
Jennifer Prevost, Finance Manager
Five years ago, I was working for a company in the manufacturing industry that was on its way to bankruptcy when I saw an ad that LASIK MD was looking for a junior accountant. I was interested in the company because I grew up wearing glasses and had been considering having laser vision correction.
When I started working at LASIK MD, there were six clinics across Canada-today we have 25. It's exciting to be a part of an organization that has undergone such rapid growth. As the company grew, so did my career and my skill-set. I was promoted to financial analyst and then finally finance manager.
The work environment at LASIK MD is fast paced with many opportunities for personal growth. It's always changing as we are constantly trying to improve.
One of the best things about coming to work everyday is the great people that I work with, not only in the finance department, but company-wide. Although I am not directly involved with the patients, I know that I work for a company that makes a difference in people's lives.
Genevieve Pilon, Director of Human Resources
I started working at LASIK MD part-time as a receptionist while finishing my studies. About a year later, as I was about to graduate with a degree in human resources, LASIK MD was coincidentally looking for some help with recruitment. I jumped on the opportunity, never expecting it would have brought me to where I am today! Things moved quickly from that point; many new clinics were opened, and my role evolved from that of being the sole human resources representative to eventually leading a team of five human resource professionals. After over 6 years working in HR, I was recently offered a great opportunity to work in Operations as the Director of Operations. The timing was perfect, I jumped on the offer! I couldn't ask for more-I love what I do and was ready for a new challenge.
I have now been with LASIK MD for over seven years and enjoy my job more than ever before. Every day brings new challenges and endless opportunities to grow and learn. As we all know, everything changes and moves quickly at LASIK MD. For me, this is a huge advantage because we get to accomplish so much and rapidly see the results of our efforts. I feel really fortunate because LASIK MD believed in my potential and always encouraged and supported my development.
Not many people can admit that they are excited to come to work every day but I can definitely say that I am! Knowing that we all work so hard to give our patients the gift of good vision is definitely the most rewarding feeling of all. To top it off, I am fortunate enough to work with a great team and people that I truly respect and enjoy working with. There isn't much more I can ask for!
Roseland Francois, Director of Sales - Internal
My career with LASIK MD began by chance in September 2003; I was a student searching for work that would accommodate my hectic schedule and provide me with valuable experience. LASIK MD was looking to fill positions which offered the flexibility and opportunity I sought. Soon after I began my training, I knew it would also be a positive, harmonious and fulfilling work environment.
Almost as soon as I was hired, I began to flourish in my role as clinical counselor. I was able to provide excellent service to our patients and using the experience I had acquired, I created and implemented training methods which were eventually used in all LASIK MD clinics. This helped improve our patients' experience and provided LASIK MD's clinical counselors with a more solid foundation.
That same year, I was promoted to Assistant Center Director, and began to travel throughout the country to train LASIK MD staff and attend conferences.
The Staff Development Officer Position was created for me the following year. Working closely with the Quality Manager, I began to oversee all clinical counselor and customer service-related training manuals. I continued to travel throughout the country to administer staff training sessions and began to supervise the launch of our new clinics.
As my responsibilities grew beyond those of my role, and I began to work more closely with the National Director of Operations, the Operations Coordinator Position was created for me.
Since that time, I've been promoted to Operations Project Manager to Director of Sales - Internal and now manage a sales force of 4 Regional Clinical Counselors Supervisors. My mission is to ensure that all clinical counselors are provided with the best motivation, sales and coaching tools to meet - or even - exceed LASIK MD's financial business objectives.
LASIK MD has helped to build my skills, independence and adaptability; this is the best business education I could have asked for. On a personal level, LASIK MD has created opportunities for me to meet people all across the country and create lasting friendships.
Jesse Allen (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Technician
In 2003, I was working at the Stanton Hospital Eye Clinic in Yellowknife, NWT. Having lived in Alberta for four years, the small-town lifestyle of Yellowknife was starting to wear a little thin on me, so I decided that it was time to leave.
Before going to Yellowknife, I had worked for several refractive clinics in Alberta, and I was interested in getting back into that line of work. A colleague from Yellowknife, who had just left to work for LASIKMD, put me in touch with Dr. Cohen. Since I wasn't too familiar with the company, I agreed to go to Calgary for a trial run at working there. It only took a couple weeks before I decided that LASIK MD was a good fit for me.
When Dr. Leger joined LASIK MD, we expanded into Edmonton, and I was given the opportunity to become Centre Director for the new clinic. I didn't hesitate to accept the position. Since that time, I've watched LASIK MD Edmonton grow to become the city's premier laser vision correction provider. Being part of that has made me extremely proud.
Leanne Sawchuk (OT), Assistant Centre Director / Ophthalmic Technician
I had been in the eye care industry for quite some time when I started working in a low-volume LASIK clinic on a part-time basis. After years in optical sales, I enjoyed the one-to-one contact with patients. When LASIK MD acquired the clinic a few years later, I initially thought it signalled the end of my career in LASIK. Imagine my surprise when LASIK MD offered me a full-time position! I jumped at the opportunity, knowing even then that it was the best career decision for me.
The fact that LASIK MD has the best doctors using the latest, most proven technology gives me with the confidence to know that we are providing a life-changing experience for our patients. Employees get great support through extensive training. The openness and approachability of the surgeons, technicians and support staff is invaluable.
LASIK MD is constantly changing and evolving. It is an exciting, challenging, and fun place to work. Most importantly, I can confidently say that I have a part in changing people's lives everyday. I often joke to patients that I've come "full-circle"; having spent most of my career getting people into glasses, I'm now getting them out! The future looks bright.
Chantal Mercier, Vice-President of Operations
I first came to LASIK MD as a patient in 2002. I was tired of wearing glasses and LASIK MD came highly recommended by my optometrist. Luckily for me, my surgeon happened to be Dr. Cohen. Right away, he put me at ease and got my mind off the surgery by asking me about my background and professional experience. When I mentioned that I had managerial experience and had almost completed a management degree, he told me that LASIK MD had an opening for a center director for the Montreal clinic. He suggested that I apply as he felt I could be a good candidate. As a patient, I felt so good about this life changing experience and was so impressed with the level of knowledge and quality of service I was getting from this young, energetic team of professionals that I couldn't help but send in my resume.
Today, I've been with the LASIK MD family for seven years. As the Vice-President of Operations, I oversee all of the LASIK MD clinics. It is exciting to be part of such a dynamic team, and to have a hand in building the most influential company in a great industry. In line with my core values, we pride ourselves on providing our patients with the best on every level; from the quality of service to outcomes, and from technology to price.
If you are driven by great challenges, excel in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and pride yourself on your abilities, LASIK MD is the place for you!
Jodie Hebbard, Regional Director, Western Canada
I joined LASIK MD Calgary as a receptionist one week after the clinic opened in December, 2003. I was really excited about a new opportunity in the health care field, and hoped to undergo training so that I could become a Clinical Assistant. That dream came true, and more! Two months after joining the company, I learned the roles of Clinical Assistant, Clinical Counsellor and Surgical Counsellor. Within my first year at LASIK MD, I became Assistant Center Director, and I jumped at the chance when the position of Center Director became available. Today, five years after coming aboard, I am LASIK MD's Regional Director for Western Canada
LASIK MD has always given me the chance to grow and learn, while providing me with great resources and training opportunities. I've witnessed LASIK MD's tremendous growth, and remain amazed at how the company is always looking for ways to improve in every aspect of our business. This quest for excellence helps to create a feeling that LASIK MD as a whole is constantly evolving-something which I find extremely exciting.
LASIK MD is a great place to work. It presents innovative, dynamic individuals with the opportunity for unlimited growth, and an environment that is progressive, rewarding, and enjoyable.
