Educational Background Dr. Daniel Sambursky completed his medical degree at The State
University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical School in Syracuse.
Dr. Sambursky then completed his specialization in ophthalmology
and ocular surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, where
he served as Chief Resident during his final year of training. He
completed his fellowship in Refractive and Corneal Surgery at the
prestigious Wilmer Institute at John Hopkins Hospital, widely
regarded as one of the best ophthalmology programs in the
world. Refractive Experience Dr. Sambursky is a pioneer in laser vision correction. In the
early 1990s, he participated in investigative trials on excimer
laser surgery and was among the first surgeons in the United States
to perform LASIK surgery. Accomplishments and Awards Dr. Sambursky designed and patented an intraocular lens, which is used to replace the human crystalline lens during cataract surgery and also designed a few surgical instruments that may be used during eye surgery. In addition, he was one of the first vision correction surgeons in the United States to remove a cataract with a laser by using a technique known as Laser Photolysis. He was also one of the first cataract surgeons to remove the human crystalline lens using pulses of water, a technique called Aqualase. For the past few years, he has lectured on vision correction surgery including LASIK and cataract surgery in the U.S. and abroad. Associations and Professional Memberships
