Educational BackgroundDr. Louis Racine completed his medical degree and specialized in Ophthalmology at the University of Montreal. Dr. Racine then successfully completed three post-doctoral fellowships – in refractive surgery, cornea and external diseases – at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Very few surgeons in Quebec have this specialized background. He also studied Ophthalmology in Waterville, Maine. Refractive ExperienceDr. Racine was the Chief Resident in Ophthalmology
at the Notre-Dame Hospital in Montreal. Dr. Racine has given
presentations in California and Fort Lauderdale for the American
Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, as well as at the
University of Montreal Research Day. He has also published an
article in a peer-reviewed journal. Dr. Racine was one of the first
surgeons in Montreal to be certified to use the Intralase
femtosecond laser to perform refractive surgery. Accomplishments and AwardsDr. Racine won first prize for his presentation
“Amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) for patients with
painful bullous keratopathy awaiting penetrating keratoplasty
(PKP)”. He also received grants from both the E. A. Baker
Foundation for the Prevention of Blindness and from the FROUM
