Educational Background



Dr. John J. Kim completed a post-baccalaureate pre-medicine program at Columbia University and received his medical degree from the State University of New York(SUNY) Downstate. He interned at the Staten Island University Hospital, and did his residency in Ophthalmology at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Kim also completed a fellowship in cornea and refractive surgery at the prestigious Johns Hopkins College of Medicine-Wilmer Eye Institute.


Refractive Experience

Before joining LASIK MD in 2007, Dr. Kim served as the Director of Cornea, Refractive Surgery and Residency at the Montefiore Medical Center’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He has trained many ophthalmologists to perform no-stitch cataract surgeries and various other ophthalmic procedures (LASIK, LASEK, PRK and PTK). Many of his former students now serve as instructors at Yale Medical School, Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is currently a clinical assistant professor of Ophthalmology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and attending physician at the New York Eye & Ear Infirmary.

On top of his teaching duties, Dr. Kim has a busy practice. His areas of specialty are LASIK, complex cataract surgeries (he performs over 1000 cataract procedures per year), corneal transplants (human and artificial cornea), and medical missions.
