LASIK MD Laser Eye SurgeryHansatome Microkeratome

The microkeratome is the instrument that creates the corneal flap during LASIK eye surgery. The Bausch & Lomb Hansatome microkeratome is a new type of microkeratome that eliminates many of the complications seen with other microkeratomes. In fact, the Hansatome was the first microkeratome specifically designed for LASIK vision correction.

The Hansatome microkeratome allows the creation of larger LASIK flaps. These larger LASIK flaps significantly reduce the risks associated with flap making. The large flaps also enable the entire cornea to receive laser treatment that increases your chance of having the best possible vision results. The Hansatome microkeratomes, currently used at LASIK MD, has been used successfully in millions of laser eye surgeries over the last eight years and is the most widely used technology to create the LASIK flap.

Advantages of the Hansatome Microkeratome for LASIK Eye Surgery

  • The microkeratome creates large flaps to allow larger size ablations.
  • The microkeratome creates vertical flaps with a superiorly placed hinge under the eyelids.
  • The microkeratome requires very little maintenance with only three components. Each component is unique and it eliminates the potential for technician error because you cannot “mix” two types of microkeratomes.
  • The microkeratome suction ring creates a gradual but gentle suction for maximum comfort.
