LASIK MD Laser Eye Surgery –
Intacs™ (Corneal Rings)
Intacs are a possible alternative for patients with mild myopia (3 diopters or less), without astigmatism. Intacs are surgically implanted plastic half rings that change the shape of the cornea. Intacs may be removed if needed. However, the potential for complications does exist.
Complications from Intacs may include difficulty with night vision, glare, halos, blurry or double vision and fluctuating distance vision. The FDA-approved labeling of Intacs indicates that up to 7% of these devices were removed due to complications during the FDA phase III of clinical trials.
Recent studies comparing LASIK vision correction and Intacs showed that LASIK eye surgery achieved significantly more accurate results three months after the procedure.
Due to these complications, LASIK MD laser eye surgeons have decided not to perform this vision correction procedure at their clinics.
