Educational Background
Dr. Ralph Zabel completed his medical degree at the University of
Western Ontario. Following completion of his residency in
ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa, Dr. Zabel successfully
completed two fellowships in cornea and refractive surgery at the
Institute of Ophthalmology in London, England and at the University
of Minnesota.
Refractive Experience
Dr. Zabel was the first Canadian surgeon to treat a patient with
the excimer laser. Dr. Ralph Zabel has extensive experience in
laser surgery including the use of the Summit, VISX, Meditec and
Bausch & Lomb excimer lasers. Dr. Zabel has also performed
thousands of Zyoptix wavefront procedures.
Accomplishments and Awards
Dr. Zabel has received numerous awards and fellowships. He is a
well recognized surgeon in North America as he has given many
lectures on excimer laser technology and has published numerous
articles on the subject in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Zabel is also a reviewer for prestigious journals such as the
Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic
Surgery and the Journal of cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Zabel was a clinical assistant professor at the University of
Minnesota and an assistant professor in the department of
ophthalmology at the University of Ottawa.
Having dedicated his carreer to refactive surgery and believing
strongly in the safety and excellent results lasik surgery
provides, Dr. Zabel has undergone Zyoptix Custom Wavefront
surgery.
