Educational Background

Dr. Dwight Silvera completed his Bachelor of Science in kinesiology at the University of Waterloo on the Dean’s Honours List. He went on to complete his medical degree at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. He then completed his specialization in ophthalmology at Queen’s University in Kingston, where he served as chief resident. He continued with a post-doctoral fellowship in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery at the University of Iowa.


Refractive Experience

Dr. Silvera has diverse experience in performing laser surgery with several types of state-of-the-art lasers, including the VISX Star S4 and the Bausch & Lomb Z100. He was one of the first surgeons to perform an IntraLase-enabled keratoplasty (cornea transplant) in the state of Iowa. During his fellowship at the University of Iowa, Dr. Silvera taught his expertise to both ophthalmology residents and medical students.


Accomplishments and Awards

Dr. Silvera has participated in various research projects and has published articles in scientific literature, including the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology. He has also given presentations at various events and major ophthalmology conferences, such as at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr. Silvera scored in the 99th percentile of his OKAP (Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program) exam and has received numerous awards in recognition for his accomplishments.
