Educational Background



Dr. Donald S Smallman attended Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia where he completed four different degrees: Bachelors of Sciences in Chemistry (with Distinction), Doctor of Medicine (with Distinction), Bachelors of Sciences in Medicine, and a 5-year post-graduate residency in Ophthalmology for FRCS(C).

Refractive Experience



Following his residency, Dr. Smallman was quickly recruited by Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario as an assistant professor of ophthalmology, where he teaches students cataract and glaucoma surgery.

Dr. Smallman has also presented internationally at ophthalmologic meetings.

Accomplishments and Awards



Dr. Smallman has published various articles and abstracts on the subject of vision correction. During his undergraduate work and medical school, he was actively involved in basic science research, publishing in several journals, including Nature Genetics.

He has also been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Dr. Harold Ross McKean Award in Ophthalmology from Dalhousie University, the Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine Scholarship for high academic standing and the Bergman-Porter Studentship from the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation for Science Bachelors.
