Educational Background
Dr. Mona Dagher completed her undergraduate degree at McGill
University where she received the Hilda Diana Oakley scholarship
for ranking in the top 5% of women. She then completed her medical
degree and specialization in ophthalmology at the Université
de Montréal, graduating on the dean’s honour list. Dr.
Dagher then pursued post-doctoral fellowship training in cornea,
external eye diseases, and refractive surgery at the prestigious
Harvard Medical School.
Refractive Experience
Dr. Dagher has extensive experience in intraocular procedures with
specific interest in corneal and refractive surgery. She is the
only Canadian specialist trained in performing the Boston
Keratoprosthesis surgery and has also trained eminent American
surgeons on this technique. She is also one of the first Canadian
surgeons to use the Intralase femtosecond laser; she has authored
on the subject and presented at the International Conference of
Femtosecond Laser in Ophthalmology.
Dr. Dagher is currently an assistant professor at the
Université de Montréal where she enjoys teaching
ophthalmologists-in-training. She is currently on staff at the CHUM
and the Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital in Montreal. She was also an
associate staff at the renowned Massachusetts Eye and Ear
Infirmary.
Accomplishments and Awards
During her academic training, Dr. Dagher was consistently on the
honours list and received several scholarships. During her
residency, she was given the Resident Research Award by the
Canadian Society for Clinical Investigation. Most recently, she
received grants from the E. A. Baker Foundation for the Prevention
of Blindness and from the Fondation du Centre Hospitalier de
l’Université de Montréal to perform
pioneering work at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Dagher has done extensive research projects in the field of
ophthalmology and more particularly on cornea and refractive
surgery. She has published numerous articles and acts as a reviewer
for ophthalmology journals. She has also authored numerous book
chapters on the subjects of the cornea and external eye diseases.
Dr. Dagher has been a guest lecturer at ophthalmology conferences
in the USA, Canada and abroad.
