Educational Background

Dr. Michael W. Dorey completed his Bachelor of Science degree from Acadia University in Nova Scotia and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from Memorial University in Newfoundland, graduating among the top of his class. He served as chief resident in Ophthalmology at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia. He is also one of the few ophthalmologists in North America with dual fellowship certifications: an Ocular Pathology fellowship from the University of Ottawa and a Glaucoma/Anterior Segment fellowship from the Drexel University College of Medicine in Pittsburgh. He is currently working as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Alberta.

Refractive Experience

Upon completing his residency, Dr. Dorey received surgical training with some of the world's most renowned surgeons. His busy clinical practice is dedicated to cataract, glaucoma, anterior segment and refractive surgeries with a firm commitment to using the latest and safest technologies. He also serves as the medical director of LASIK MD's Edmonton clinic.

Accomplishments and Awards

Dr. Dorey has received numerous awards and scholarships, including the prestigious Killam scholarship awarded to medical school graduates of extraordinary ability, and the Hewlett-Packard Award for being the top undergraduate student.

He has published several articles in international literature, including the American Journal of Ophthalmology, and has been cited by several authors worldwide. Dr. Dorey has also reviewed the work submitted to the Ophthalmology and American Journal of Ophthalmology. His most recent work, Focal Points, published by the American Academy of Ophthalmology, serves as a teaching module for ophthalmologists around the world.
