Educational Background

Dr. David W. Johnson received his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal. He then went on to complete the ophthalmology residency program at the Medical College of Georgia, where he was chief resident. Dr. Johnson was awarded a fellowship from The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1996. He also holds a certification in family medicine from the University of Toronto, where he completed a two-year residency.

Refractive Experience

Dr. Johnson’s has more than twelve years of experience as a lasik and cataract surgery specialist. He also has extensive experience performing intraocular surgery, including clear lens extraction for high myopia. Dr. Johnson performs over 700 cataract procedures each year, and has also conducted thousands of advanced custom wavefront procedures.

Dr. Johnson has extensive experience using the Bausch & Lomb Technolas 217 laser and Hansatome keratome. He has performed laser vision correction for several laser centers, and up until recently was the medical director for a large laser center in London, Ontario. Dr. Johnson has lectured and taught the LASIK procedure to other surgeons, and is certified in the use of several types of ophthalmic lasers.

Accomplishments and Awards

During his residency in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Johnson was awarded the J.L. Gayton award for his outstanding achievement in the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program. It was also here that he received two awards for original research he had conducted. Dr. Johnson is a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology and chief of surgery for the Woodstock General Hospital. He has had several articles published in leading medical journals, and in 2004 became adjunct professor of medicine at the University of Western Ontario.
